The work of Sophie Hamilton can be found at www.turnstonegallery.net
Sophie makes a range of contemporary pots, which are both functional and decorative.
Sophie completed an Art Foundation Course at York and then gained a Ceramics Degree at Bristol. She worked at the Dartington Pottery in Devon for five years before moving on to establish her own workshop in 1991 at High Marishes, Malton.
All Sophie's pots are either hand thrown, jollied or press moulded, depending on their shape and size. After the pots have been made and dried they are bisq fired. They are then dipped in a base glaze and then each pot is individually hand decorated with rich coloured glazes and patterns. All the pots are made from stoneware clay and reduction fired in a gas kiln.
Sophie welcomes visitors to her pottery which is open daily except Sundays.
