Stephen lives and works at Landermere Quay in the Walton backwaters of Essex. His home by the marshes, now lived in by the fourth generation of his family, is the source of inspiration for his carvings of shoreline birds and fish.

Stephen's carvings are keenly observed. Carving out of found pieces of wood and Canadian Pine, he mounts his work on driftwood and natural weathered timber.

Stephen has had a lifelong experience of working with wood. He comes from a family of artists and craftsmen and his work carries on the traditions of the Arts and Crafts movement started by his forbears Vanessa and Quentin Bell.

Stephen's work is in homes and hotels throughout Britain and abroad. Articles and photographs of his work have appeared in Country Living, BBC Homes and Antiques, East Anglian Daily Times and also in a documentary for Japanese television.
