Byron Howard lives at Thorne, near Doncaster, and works from his home, Travis Studio.

Byron is a master sculptor of international reputation and his work is held in both private and public collections.  Much of his work is produced using the lost wax method, which has been used by sculptors for thousands of years.  Models are made in beeswax, coated with reinforced layers of clay, and after firing the wax melts away leaving a cavity into which the molten bronze is poured.  The clay shell breaks away to reveal the casting for finishing (fettling).

One of his most well known commissions is his sculpture of the conductor Sir John Barbirolli, which stands outside the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester.  Byron is a self-effacing artist who does not dwell on his achievements, "my work is not about who I am, but about what I do - it stands on its own".
