Ailsa is a ceramic and glass artist based in Sleights near Whitby.
Her ceramic work incorporates a variety of wheel thrown, hand building and carving techniques which concentrate on form rather than function. Clay is never weighed and work is always cut and carved freehand to ensure each pieceís individuality.
Ailsaís glass work also tends to be more sculptural in nature using casting and fusing techniques. Alongside more traditional methods of glass making Ailsa also recycles and upcycles old materials, such as shower doors, tv stands, glass shelves and alike, turning one manís trash into another manís treasure.
For Ailsa the thought and technical processes are as inspiring as the forms themselves, her work is constantly moving and changing as she pushes the boundaries of possibility.
