Sheila Spencer

December 2010 - view work by our new potter on this page. If you are interested in any of Sheila's work please phone the gallery on 01947 893289 or email us via the website. Although we always have a selection of her work in stock not every piece shown may be available, however we may be able to order a similar piece. Don't forget that the own art scheme is available on any sale over £100.

Sheila trained at Rotherham School of Art and Liverpool College of Art and left a career in teaching to concentrate on her own work.

Although Sheila has been making pots for a long time she says that she is "still amazed by the alchemy that changes messy clay into a bright, shiny object".

Sheilas earthenware pots are notable for their colour and decoration and she uses any method possible to achieve this - stencils, sponges, wax resist, brushing and splashing. Some designs incorporate lettering and Sheila suspects that she might be a repressed graffiti artist!

Based near Sheffield and a regular exhibitor with the Northern Potters Association, Sheila has exhibited her work at ceramic fairs across the country.
