Now that the Turnstone Gallery has permanently closed you can keep up with what Steve is doing by following the link at the bottom of this page.
"I am an instinctive painter. My pictures take form through the process of painting, not through strict adherence to a fully formulated plan.
I aspire to infuse my pictures with fluidity, energy, colour and texture. My aim is to achieve a balance, a harmony and a completeness that encapsulates the essence of what I feel.
I work intensively to convey my emotional energy into a painting. For me, this is the only way to ensure authenticity. I paint using acrylics, palette knives and brushes.
I am greatly inspired by the dramatic beauty of the countryside around me. Exploring my emotive response to it, I allow my paintings to develop spontaneously, often weaving numerous layers together. They are often formed from a blend of images of local landscapes and my own experiences, as I strive to condense my impression of a time and place.
I feel a connection with the sea that is hard to put into words. There is always the sense of awe that comes with experiencing such a large body of water, intrigue for what goes on beneath the surface, and the perpetual ancient rhythms of waves and the tide. I am aware that, paradoxically, whilst the sea gives me a sense of peace it also generates within me a restlessness of spirit."
